Tell us the title or topic of the text your pupils are reading and pick a Key Stage. We'll generate ready-to-use question stems for seven reading skills, which you complete by referring to your own text.
This tool does not read or understand your text. It generates question starters for each reading skill, personalised with your text's title — you fill in the specifics using your own knowledge of the text.

How to use
What this tool actually does: there's no AI here and it does not read, scan or "understand" any text. It gives you a bank of well-crafted question stems — sentence starters organised by reading skill — that you complete yourself by referring to your text. Think of it as a scaffold for writing comprehension questions quickly, not a tool that analyses your text for you.
- Enter the title or topic of the text (this personalises the wording of each stem).
- Choose a Key Stage — this changes the vocabulary and complexity of the stems generated.
- Optionally paste your text into the box provided so it's on screen while you work. It is not processed in any way.
- Click Generate question starters for one stem across each of seven reading skills: retrieval, inference, prediction, vocabulary in context, summarising, explanation and evidence.
- Use Generate again for a completely fresh set, or the swap button on a single row to try a different version of just that one.
- Edit each stem to refer to the specific character, event, fact or quotation from your actual text before using it with pupils.
