What this practises: identifying the first sound in a simple, familiar word -- an important early phonics and pre-reading skill.

Suggested age range: approximately 3–5 years.

How adults can help: say each word slowly and clearly together before choosing an answer, stretching out the first sound a little ("sssun") if your child needs a hint.
