Times Tables Starter
Groups. Patterns. Times tables.
Before fast recall, it helps to really understand what a times table means — equal groups, repeated addition and number patterns. Choose a table and try a few different ways of looking at it.

For Grown-Ups
What this practises: understanding of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables through equal groups, counting patterns, repeated addition and simple sharing — the groundwork for confident recall later in KS2.
Suitable for: Years 1 and 2. This is deliberately not a speed test — the focus is understanding what multiplication means.
How to help: ask your child to explain a group or a pattern in their own words before checking the answer. The optional timer in Times Table Challenge is off by default — there's no need to turn it on.
Try next: KS2 Times Tables Challenge is a good next step once recall feels quick and confident. KS1 Maths Challenge covers wider KS1 number and calculation skills.
