What this practises: sentence construction — word order, capital letters, full stops and question marks, choosing appropriate words, and expanding simple sentences with useful detail.
Suitable for: Years 1 and 2. Year 2 introduces conjunctions such as ‘because’, ‘when’ and ‘but’.
How to help: if your child gets something wrong, ask them to read the sentence out loud — it often helps them hear what's missing. In "Make It Better", talk about whether each new word actually adds something useful, not just length.
Try next: Common Exception Words is a good companion for the tricky spelling that comes up in longer sentences.
